Hammersmith Belgians are owned by Craig and Chris Hammersmith in Defiance, Ohio. Craig bought his first team of Belgians in 1978. He used the team to log in the state of Vermont for a living. In the mid 80's, Craig and Chris moved back to Defiance, and then purchased Defiance Truck Sales from his parents. They then began to raise Belgians, reaching numbers as much as 45 Belgians at one time. In 1988, they began to show at various county fairs. In 1998, they began to show a six horse hitch at a national level. In 2004, they hired their current horseman, Jason Honsberger. Over the years they have strived to be the best Belgian hitch in the Country. In 2008, their perseverance and hard work paid off, Hammersmith Belgians was awarded the Champion Belgian Gelding Six Horse Hitch at the North American Belgian Championship VI in Indianapolis, Indiana. Since that achievement they have settled for no less than the best, being the top point hitch in the country in 2009 and 2010.
